The Warm Cozy Flag
Much moronic ado has been made of Sheik Barack Hussein Mohamed bin Obama of the Secret Caliphate Order to Destroy America not sporting the secret gay-code jewelery adornment of the Guns-god-illicit-bathroom-sex loving right wing.
Salon.com paraphrases Senator Obama, I think, correctly: Obama said he had worn a pin after 9/11 but stopped once he began to notice, and here I paraphrase wildly but no doubt accurately, that most of the people still wearing lapel flags were assholes.
Damn skippy, they are.
As a liberal, I understand symbols. Symbols are like art, and art, like health care and education, is one of the many dastardly socialist programs I would like the downtrodden taxpayer to have the burden of paying for (and never-mind most of your tax dollars fund the military, payolas for agri-business, oil interests, and corporate welfare, not to mention paying all those phone bills for all that illegally seized wiretap data).
I get it.
If you want to wear a flag pin on your lapel, great. You're proud of America. Good for you. So am I, sometimes.
If you wear the pin and make a big deal about it, you're an attention queen.
And if you make a big deal about wearing it, and someone else *gasp* forgetting to wear it, you are a gas-bag attention queen asshole.
I don't recall there being a dress code for being an American. Is that in "The Constitution?"
Seems to me that if your idea of patriotism is waving around the flag and criticizing anyone who doesn't, you have perhaps missed a couple of civics lessons. You stopped listening after "I pledge allegiance to the flag.."
I do pledge allegiance to the United States of America, and I love my country.
If you don't believe me, well, I'm sorry to hear that, and you are wrong. But I'm not going to get dressed up in costume jewelry to prove it to you, and neither should Senator Obama be forced to.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
